What you will make:
The Nila Folded Sarong Skirt combines a graceful, sarong-inspired front with an easy, comfortable fit. The distinctive folded front creates an elegant drape and adds a modern touch to the traditional sarong skirt silhouette.
Designed to sit at the natural waist, the skirt features a gently shaped silhouette through the hips and falls to a relaxed, comfortable fit. It has a fixed front waistband with an elasticised back, offering the comfort and ease of an elasticised waistband, while giving a cleaner, flatter look at the front.
The folded front is designed to stay securely in place while creating the appearance of a wrapped sarong. A side zip provides easy dressing, while an optional functional in-seam side pocket adds practicality for everyday wear.
Designed with both style and practicality in mind, the Nila can be paired with a kebaya or other heritage-inspired blouse for festive occasions, or worn with a simple top for a more relaxed contemporary look.
Patterns for hip size 86cm to 110cm are available. (Please get in touch with us first prior to registration if your measurements do not fit the hip size above.)

-
Fusible interfacing
- 1/2 yard lightweight interfacing
- Waistband interfacing (medium or firm fusible interfacing)
- Elastic: 1.5" wide: half of your actual waist measurement + 3cm (1 1/8")
- Fabric in one of the following quantities:
- One piece of batik panel (100cm x 200cm); OR
- 2.25m (2.5 yard) of 44-inch-wide OR 60-inch wide woven fabric
- Matching sewing thread
Please bring additional fabric if your print requires pattern matching or directional placement.
Recommended fabrics: Stable woven fabrics that press well, such as 100% cotton batik, cotton poplin, broadcloth/shirting, linen, or cotton-linen blends (approximately 120–180 gsm). These fabrics produce crisp, well-defined front pleats. Softer fabrics such as rayon, viscose, or lightweight polyester will create a more fluid look with less defined pleats.
All other sewing tools & equipment will be provided at the class.
A soft copy of the pattern (with all sizes) will also be emailed to you after the class.
+Class may be rescheduled if the minimum number is not reached.
