What you will make:
The Mira Wiron Skirt is a modern, wearable interpretation of the traditional kain wiron style. It features seven neatly stacked front pleats, creating an elegant focal point while allowing comfortable movement. Waist and back darts gently shape the skirt for a flattering silhouette, while the elasticated waistband provides added ease and comfort.
A side zip with a hook-and-bar closure gives the skirt a clean, secure finish.
Patterns for hip size 86cm to 110cm are available. (Please get in touch with us first prior to registration if your measurements do not fit the hip size above.)
What you will learn:
- Fabric layout and cutting
- Sewing and arranging seven stacked front pleats
- Sewing darts to shape the skirt
- Constructing an elasticated waistband
- Inserting a side zip
- Attaching a hook-and-bar closure
Suitable for: Beginners with basic sewing-machine experience. Guidance will be provided throughout the workshop.
Things You Need to Bring Along:
- One 8-inch zip
- One pair of hook-and-bar fasteners
- Matching sewing thread
- 20cm x 10cm light-weight interfacing (for the side zip)
- Fabric in one of the following quantities:
- One piece of batik panel (100cm x 200cm) for hip measurements below 1cm, and two pieces of batik for hip measurements of 106 cm and above OR
- 2.25m (2.5 yard) of 60-inch-wide cotton woven fabric OR
- 3.25m (3.5 yard) of 44-inch-wide cotton woven fabric
Recommended fabrics: Stable woven fabrics that press well, such as 100% cotton batik, cotton poplin, broadcloth/shirting, or lightweight cotton-linen blends (approximately 120–160 gsm). These fabrics create crisp, well-defined pleats. Avoid lightweight, fluid, or slippery fabrics such as cotton lawn, rayon, viscose, most polyester fabrics, satin, chiffon, crepe, or stretch fabrics, as they do not hold crisp pleats well.
Please bring additional fabric if your print requires pattern matching or directional placement.
All other sewing tools & equipment will be provided at the class.
A soft copy of the pattern (with all sizes) will also be emailed to you after the class.
+Class may be rescheduled if the minimum number is not reached.
