What you will make:

Participants will create either the Pearl Samfu Top or the Coral Kebaya Top. Both are our modern reinterpretations of traditional dress, thoughtfully redesigned for everyday wear.

The Pearl Samfu Top features a relaxed, casual fit with extended shoulders, a clean boxy silhouette, and a classic mandarin collar that honours its cultural roots. Inspired by the traditional samfu, it reinterprets familiar design elements in a way that feels fresh, versatile and easy to wear today. The looser silhouette gives it a breezy, effortless quality, while the clean lines make it easy to style in different ways, worn tucked in for a more polished look, or untucked for a relaxed, casual feel. It is a gentle nod to heritage, designed for contemporary wardrobes and everyday life.

The Coral Kebaya Top is inspired by the kutu baru kebaya, recognised by its distinctive front panel and layered neckline. While many in Singapore may be more familiar with the fitted Nyonya kebaya, this version offers a different expression of the kebaya silhouette within our shared regional heritage. Reimagined for modern wear, it features short, flared sleeves for a lighter, more comfortable feel that is well suited to today’s weather. It is designed to be easy to style for everyday life, while still carrying the elegance of the kebaya.

Both designs celebrate heritage in a way that feels approachable, wearable and relevant today.

Guided step by step in a beginner-friendly session, participants will sew their own wearable garment from pre-cut kits, learning essential construction techniques while enjoying the mindful, immersive process of slow fashion.
